UFC on ESPN 12: Poirier vs Hooker Coby’s Plays

It’s fight day once again on this fine Saturday and this card is capped off with an absolute banger of a lightweight battle between Dan Hooker and Dustin Poirier.

To do a little optimistic foreshadowing, it would make immense amount of sense for the winner of this main event to take on Conor McGregor next.

Some other fights on this card to keep an eye on are obviously the co-main Mike Perry vs Mickey Gall, Khama Worthy vs Luis “Violent Bob Ross” Pena and Brendan Allen vs Kyle Daukaus.

The main event makes this card a bit deceiving, considering the stakes of the fight moving someone into title contention. The card itself has been dwindled down due to injuries and positive COVID-19 tests.

Also, the odds on this card on nothing short of horse shit. There is three fights on the card in which both fighters are in the 100’s. Therefore, you are making minimal amounts money betting favorites here.

As for my picks and plays it was a rough week last week going 6-6 and 1-1 in best bets however, I went 4-1 on the main card making it 9-1 on my last two main cards. I expect tonight to be just as good, if not better.

  1. Luis “Violent Bob Ross” Pena -245

The 8-2 highly touted prospect is a problem. At 6’3 Pena is guaranteed to tower over many lightweights and although he does stand four inches taller than his opponent, Khama Worthy isn’t all that small for a 155er. This fight has the potential to be fight of the night; without a doubt these two will stand and bang. My reasoning for rolling with Pena is simple, he is better just about everywhere. The only discrepancies for Pena would be power and strength, but in MMA there are ways you can easily mask both. As I stated earlier in this, the odds on this card are horrid however, Pena being favored like this is reasonable. Pena has the potential and personality to be a fan favorite in the fight game, not to mention his intriguing fight style.

2. Gall/Perry U1.5 -120

It’s possible I may be biting the bait here however, in 27 fights between both of these guys 14 of them have gone under a round and a half. Both these guys finish fights; Perry is 13-6 11 of the 13 wins by KO and Gall is 6-2 five of those wins are by submission. To me Mike Perry should KO Gall in the first round without a doubt. However, if somehow Gall can get this fight to the ground early and try to use the more prolific submission game to his advantage he could get a quick W. Realistically, Mike Perry should win this fight by KO very early, but that could make too much sense. If Diego Sanchez at age 37 can KO Gall in just over a round and a half Mike Perry, who is 10 years younger and has heavier hands, should be able to do it twice as fast.

These are my favorite plays for tonight. If you’re looking for my full card plays and picks just hit me up on twitter. Whether you roll with us or fade us, good luck and break the bank.
