UFC 257 McGregor vs. Poirier 2: Coby's Best Bets

The UFC caps off international fight week with a banger as Conor McGregor returns to the octagon for a sequel bout with Dustin Poirier.

These two matched up back in 2014 at featherweight and McGregor made quick work of Poirier finishing him in under two minutes.

Also on this card, Dan Hooker welcomes Michael Chandler to the UFC, a classic striker vs. grappler match between Amanda Ribas and Marina Rodriguez and a possible #1 contender bout between Jessica Eye and Joanne Calderwood.

Some other known fighters that will be in the cage tonight are Arman Tsarukyan, Nik Lentz, Kahlil Rountree and Julianna Pena.

On the gambling side of things, there are a ton of close fights. We have just two favorites over the -500 number and three more over -300. With six fights sitting in the range of -160 or below, we can expect a closer night of fights, at least Vegas thinks. Personally, I see a few dogs with great value.

1. McGregor by TKO/KO -180

Most books will have this closer to -200, but I found a few that have it as low as -180 as early as noon today. This is still a low number in my opinion. The Conor that is in front of our eyes is a different and far superior version that we have seen yet. Not to take anything away from Dustin as he has improved immensely since that day in 2014. However, Conor is a -310 favorite on the book I used to find the prop line. Also, in Conor’s 22 victories 19 of them have come by way of KO. I don’t think this fight gets out of the third round to be brutally honest. Although Poirier has only been KO’d twice in his career, I think Conor brings something that will be too much for Dustin. That is precise and elite striking. Some people will bring Poirier’s fight with Holloway up, but I think the real MMA fans know that McGregor’s striking is absolutely superior to all of Poirier’s past opponent’s, even himself in 2014. If you don’t want to lay the juice on this line, parlay it.

2. Jessica Eye +105

This is a bit more of a sweat compared to the Conor play. However, I have confidence in Eye in this fight. I believe her game will cause problems for Calderwood. Chookagian beat up Calderwood pretty badly and I see Jessica doing the same. The keys for Eye in this fight are to push and dictate the pace, not fight off her back foot and dominate with her boxing. This fight is probably the most likely one on the card to go to decision and I do like the odds on Eye by decision. To be honest there is value on both girls to win by decision. With this being said I have no problem taking a chance at Eye here because I feel like stylistically it’s a good matchup for her game.

Honorable Mentions: Muradov -160

ML Parlay: Ribas/Evolev/Rountree/McGregor +160
