Tonight is no ordinary fight night. UFC 253’s main event between, undefeated Middleweight champ, Israel Adesanya and, undefeated #1 contender, Paulo Costa feels like a prize fight.
Adesanya and Costa have been involved in a verbal war since I can remember and tonight they will settle it inside the octagon.
Also on this card, former Light heavyweight title challenger Dominick Reyes takes on Jan Blachowitz for the vacant Light heavyweight belt. Diego Sanchez vs Jake Matthews, Kai Kara France vs Brandon Royval and Hakeem Dawodu vs Zubaira Tukhugov are all bangers as well.
As far as the odds go, there’s tons of opportunity to cash out tonight. Only three fights on this card have a favorite over the -270 range. I love a few dogs on this card. You can find my full card plays on twitter @thiskid_coby5.
Israel Adesanya -180
This is Izzy’s fight to lose. Adesanya is a veteran of over 80 kickboxing matches as well as 19 martial arts bouts. He is one of the most, if not the most, technically sound martial artists on the planet. The only was Paulo Costa defeats Israel Adesanya is by KO early in the fight. The issues with that are Izzy has some of the best striking defense in the world and Paulo Costa has never went five rounds. I will tail my boy @smoke_sports1 with the over in this fight as well. Some of my favorite shots in the dark here are Adesanya winning in round 3 +850 or Adesanya in round 4. A play I love is Adesanya by TKO/KO +140.
Kai Kara France by Dec -115
If your tailing this, you’ll see my trend here. City Kickboxing has four fighters on this card and two of them are my favorite plays. This gym has dominated the MMA scene for the last couple years and I don’t believe it ends here. A play I love here is Fight to go the distance -160, but I feel Kai wins this fight convincingly so why not get a bit greedy. Royval is a tough fighter with solid Jiu-Jitsu and a high work rate, however he really puts the pedal to the metal early in the fight. This could hurt him big time if he doesn’t land one early because that tends to empty the tank. I think if there is anyway Royval wins its by sub, but hopefully the extreme experience discrepancy will be play because it heavily favors Kai. Either way I believe this one goes to the judges.
Honorable Mentions: Dawodu +115. Espinosa by Finish -110
