The Miami Dolphins are here to STAY
A lot has happened within the past six weeks. The presidential election, the ALCS/NLCS, and World Series, SmokeSports was just starting to build a powerhouse team. But do you know what has not happened? The Miami Dolphins have not lost an NFL football game. After five straight wins, the Phins are sitting a half-game behind the division-leading Bills at 6-3. Not too bad for a team that won five games TOTAL last season.
It's easy to look at the change at QB as the turning point of this team. Ryan Fitzpatrick was playing pretty well (for his standards), but the move to start Tua was 100% the right call. There is a reason this man was elected with a top-5 pick in the NFL draft AFTER breaking his hip, this kid is something special. But making a change at quarterback is not the only thing that has caused such a sudden turnaround in Miami.
Last offseason Miami made several moves to help bolster their defense, which was historically bad at times in 2019. At the time the biggest move was signing former Dallas CB Byron Jones to a record contract for any cornerback. But perhaps the most under the radar signings were two big DE, Emmanuel Ogbah and Shaq Lawson. Both Ogbah and Lawson had been in the league for a little bit and Dolphins fans thought knew what they were getting, but what they got is blowing the expectations out of the water. These two are leading a new generation of Dolphins defense that has the potential, with coach Flores, to be one of the best defenses for years to come.
Looking forward the Dolphins have a pretty favorable schedule. They play the Broncos, Jets, and Bengals over their next three games. All three of those teams combined have a lower win total than Miami this year. For a team that controls their own fate in the AFC East, you’ve got to like the team that is streaking right now and has the most confidence in the league.
