SmokeSports Fantasy Football-Week 3 Waiver Wire

Week 2 was one to forget, as multiple stars went down with injury. Saquon Barkley, Christian McCaffery and Cortland Sutton will all miss significant time. Barkley suffered a torn ACL during week two, and Cortland Sutton reportedly, “Tore up his knee”. Both young players will be sidelined for the rest of the season, as Christian McCaffery suffered a high ankle sprain that will have a 4-6 week timetable.

The week 3 waiver wire has some new names, and some players who will be a replacement for injury. Today, I'll be giving my top waiver pickups for the Week 3 NFL season.

Joshua Kelly-RB Chargers

Kelly led the Chargers in total touches in week 2 against the Chiefs, with 23 carries and 2 receptions. While Ekeler is still the primary back on this team, it seems certain that Kelly will see a solid carry count going forward. Kelly is definitely not a week to week starter yet, but someone you want on your roster going forward, especially during the Justin Herbert experiment.

Michael Pittman-WR Colts

Pittman is a Rookie Wideout from USC, and was taken with the 34th pick of the 2020 NFL Draft. We saw Parris Campbell’s impact in week 1 with 9 targets, and was the waiver wire pickup for last week, sadly he went down with a PCL injury. With the vacated targets from Parris Campbell and possibly Jack Doyle, we can see a monster week for the rookie wide out against the Jets. If you’re looking for a flex play in a deeper league, Pittman could come in big.

Mike Davis-RB Panthers

Mike Davis came in and caught all 8 targets for 74 yards in Carolina’s loss to Tompa Bay. Davis will provide solid PPR work while McCaffery is nursing his high-ankle sprain. The next 4-6 weeks can provide solid value for your team if you’re suffering from injury problems, or if you’re dealing with early bye weeks in running backs.

Dion Lewis-RB Giants

Dion is another flyer to look at in PPR leagues. He’s going to see more passing work with Saquon out, but not much more. He definitely isn’t an every down back and I don’t see a huge target market, but he can definitely give you a flex option if needed.

Gardner Minshew-QB Jaguars

My streaming pick of the week. Gardner has kept his team in both games, and is going into week 3 with a 1-1 record. The Jaguars play Miami in week 3, and after the beating Josh Allen put on the Dolphins, i'm sure it can happen again. Gardner looks to have his team in a groove, and is looking stronger than anyone gave him credit for. With the struggling Dolphins coming up, I’m riding Minshew Mania in week 3.
