We didn’t even know if we were getting an all-star game this season but it is looking promising. The teams have been selected and there are some noticeable snubs from both conferences. The only hard part is who do you drop from the team to fit some of these guys in.
It may just be too early for Shai because we can all see the potential he has of eventually being an all-star. Right now his team is at the bottom of the Western Conference, to no fault of his own. This may be the reason that he did not receive as many votes as other players because he certainly has the personal accolades to make it averaging 23 points 0.6 blocks 0.8 steals 6.5 assists and 5.2 rebounds. The Thunder are a very young and inexperienced team right now but I see them growing together and being a threat to a lot of teams in the future. I’m sure SGA isn’t too happy about missing out on the all-star nod but he knows he has plenty of seasons ahead of him to keep proving that he’s worth it.
The Bucks second option has been very consistent this year the problem is his stats don’t jump off the page. He has easily been one of the best wings in the league this year but only has 20 points per game to show for it. Middleton is also averaging 6 rebounds 6 assists 1 steal and about 2.5 three pointers per game. He is one of only two players in the league right now that are part of the %50/%40/%90 club, the other is Paul George. Great all around player that helps his team win games but maybe not enough to get the votes that he would have needed to get him over the hump.
I am very surprised with Bam not making it but looking at the big men on the East it is a tough crowd. Embiid is genuinely having an MVP like season also Randle and Vucevic are playing out of their minds. I thought Bam might make it just based off the Miami Heat fan voting because they love their star. He has numbers to back up his performances also 20 points 1 block 1 steal 5.5 assists and 9.5 rebounds. Beautiful all-around numbers but same thins with Middleton he probably lost votes just cus his scoring total is a little low.
The star big for the Pacers is in the same boat as Bam, no room to squeeze in. He might even have more of a case for being an all-star though because his stats show he has been one of the best bigs in the league this season. Sabonis is averaging 21.5 points 1 steal 0.7 blocks 5.7 assists 11.6 rebounds and leading Indiana to a four seed in the East. This one might be the most surprising of them all because He is the best player on his team unlike Middleton but also his team is having a lot of success unlike Bam. It boils down to again who do you take out though and it’s tuff, but I think he may have made the best case out of anyone.
Ice Trae was an all-star starter last season and in my opinion still is this year. He may be the biggest snub in the whole league and I personally think he deserves it over Kyrie who he has more games played and almost double the assists. Young’s other numbers are pretty similar to Kyrie averaging 27 points 4 rebounds 0.8 steals and almost 10 assists per game. I understand the argument of Kyrie though because his team is second in the East and the Hawks are currently out of the playoffs but Irving has a lot more help than Trae Young. He has regressed a little bit from last season but this is only his third season in the league and I am sure he’ll be getting plenty more all-star votes in the future.
