What’s up degenerates,
I’m back after a weeklong battle with COVID-19, but I fought it so I could come back and preview the Honda Classic for you all.
Last week at The Players Championship, Sawgrass, Justin Thomas got back in the winner’s circle cashing out a cool 2.7 million, the largest check for any tournament on tour. We saw a final group pairing of Lee Westwood and Bryson Dechambeau for the second time in two weeks, and it looked like we may have another showdown on 18 like we did at the Arnold Palmer final round, but neither could find a good rhythm on Sunday and struggled early in the round and allowed a lot of the field to catch back up and eventually JT took over the show and closed out a very impressive Sunday round.
This week’s tournament does not have the same big names and big promise that last week had, as TPC Sawgrass is a tournament every golfer wants to play in because of the prestige and the checks they pass out. PGA National plays as one of the harder golf courses on tour, which makes for an interesting tournament even without the stars we’ve gotten accustomed to seeing the past few weeks.
One of the storylines I am watching this week is Lee Westwood. Man, has this guy made some money these past few weeks, back-to-back solo 2nd cashing in over 2.6 million in those two finishes. Could you imagine working at your and for that 2 week pay period you made TWO AND A HALF MILLION DOLLARS. SHEEEESH!! You wouldn’t see me the next week that’s for sure so hats off to Lee on continuing to play tournaments with his smoking hot fiancé on his bag for him. What a power-move that is itself.
I’m not going to lie to everybody, I have not taken as deep of a dive into the tournament as I do for others because lets be honest we are ALL celebrating having a NCAA Tournament again and no golfer participating is dominant enough for me to go out on a limb and call my shot like I did with Bryson for the Arnold Palmer, but does that mean I’m not betting any outrights? Of course not, I’m a degenerate just like you are, so here are my bets for The Honda Classic winner. Outright: Lee Westwood +2000 Lee has been so damn close the past few week, why not this week Lee!
Sungjae Im +1200 insanely low value here for Im, but as one of the more experienced and better golfers on the card its hard to not like him this week. His first career win was here at PGA National last year.
Joaquin Neimann +1600 one of the best young golfers in the game coming off a top 30 last week in a loaded Players field can hopefully get near the top in a much less competitive field
Taylor Gooch +3000 similar story to Neimann, a young golfer playing probably the best golf of his life right now is poised to make a run this week after a T5 last week and T12 a few weeks before that at Riveria
Doug Ghim +5000 “Who?” Is exactly what I said when I saw Doug shooting up the leaderboard at Sawgrass last week, had a disastrous Sunday, but I’m sure it was a very humbling moment for the young golfer and could give him the confidence he needs to finish strong through the weekend
