Earlier this season, during a postgame interview on TNT Shaquille O’Neal was talking to Donovan Mitchell and said, “You are one of my favorite players, but I don’t think you have what it takes to get to the next level”. To which Mitchell responds, “Aight”. Obviously a pretty awkward situation to be in, I’m sure Mitchell looks up to Shaq as a player but hearing one of the best players of all time tell you straight to your face that you don’t have what it takes to get to the next level is tough. Apparently the Utah star guard didn’t let it bother him too much and probably used it as fuel to just absolutely obliterate the league. The Jazz ended the 2021 season with the best record in the entire league. Mitchell had a couple injuries during the season causing him to only play in 53 games this season but he still made a huge impact raising his points game total to 26.4, the highest it’s ever been.
Spida dropped 45 points in Tuesday’s win over the Clippers. The Jazz are 5-1 in the playoffs so far and haven’t lost a game when Mitchell was playing. The Louisville Alumni has made many improvements since entering the league only 4 years ago. He is a top guard in the league at this moment and I am sure Shaq may have to eat his words if Spida keeps playing like this.
