The Skills Challenge Participants this year are; Chris Paul, Luka Doncic, Robert Covington, Domantas Sabonis, Nikola Vucevic and Julius Randle. The obvious favorites will be CP3 and Luka but this competition has some solid performers all around. Bam Adebayo proved last year that it is not impossible for a big man to win the competition after Porzingis and KAT are the only other Centers to win the challenge. If i had to pick a dark horse candidate it would be Julius Randle because i believe his passing ability is the best out of the non point guards also he brings the ball up the court very often for New York. My pick to win the competition though is Chris Paul, he is one of the best ball handlers and passers that this league has ever seen. He is getting older and I am sure he would love to add a "Skills Challenge Champion" to his illustrious hall-of-fame resume.
The 3-Point Contest is headlined by a laundry list of household names lead by Steph Curry and Devin Booker but also including both Boston Celtics all-stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, first time all star Zach Lavine and star of the team with the best record in the West, Donovan Mitchell. My two favorites to win this competition have to be either Steph or Book. Curry is the best 3-point shooter the game has ever seen and is hard to ever count him out in this competition. I see Booker playing well all weekend with a chip on his shoulder from the original snub. I would not be surprised if D-Book won this competition but I have to go with the "Baby Faced Assassin" Wardell Stephen Curry.
2021 Three Point Percentage Rankings
Zach Lavine 43.3%
Steph Curry 41.3%
Jaylen Brown 38.9%
Donovan Mitchel 38%
Devin Booker 36.7%
Jayson Tatum 36.4%
This year's dunk contest may look a little different than usual having only three participants. The guys in the dunk contest may not be household names either but they can fly. The contest will have Knicks rookie, Obi Toppin (44 inch vertical) who is probably the favorite even though power dunkers like him do not always do well in a very fan dependent competition. Another rookie, Cassius Stanley (44 inch vertical, broke Duke MBB record), will also be in the competition. Anfernee Simons (42 inch vertical) is the least known player out of the bunch but he can get up! Simons smaller 6'3" height may help him out in the contest. They also put together a star studded judges panel including some of the best dunkers of all-time. I think this contest will be better than some expected and I would not be surprised if there is a late addition to the competition.
Cassius Stanley - My pick to win (was doing this type of stuff as a freshman in high school)
