9/3 Baseball Plays
Padres ( -136) V Angels (+126)
Mike Clevinger makes his Padres debut as he takes on the struggling Angels. Pitching for the angels is Andrew Heaney, who holds a 2-2 record and a 4.62 ERA, versus lefties, the Padres are as good as it gets, hitting .272 as a team. Wil Myers will be missed, but this offense is too good and will rake off of the struggling Heaney. Clevinger holds a record of 1-1 and an ERA of 3.18 over four starts this season. The Angels are good versus right handed pitchers, hitting .250 as a team, but they will be missing their most consistent bat in David Fletcher, who hits .350 off of right handed pitchers. Clevinger is one of the elite right handers in the league, so it will be hard for the Angels to score runs.
The Pick: Padres ML Padres 7- Angels 3
White Sox (-136) V Royals (+126)
One of the biggest surprises of the season has been the Chicago White Sox, who hold a 22-15 record coming into this series versus the last place Royals. Pitching for the White Sox is Dylan Cease who has quietly had a great season thus far, holding a 4-2 record and 3.00 ERA over seven appearances and thirty-six innings pitched. He has pitched against the Royals twice this year, pitching ten and one third total innings and giving up three runs. Versus right handed pitchers, the Royals are pretty average, hitting .229 as a team, expect Cease to shut down the Royals offense. Pitching for the Royals is Danny Duffy, who holds a 2-2 record and 4.11 ERA. In his one start versus the White Sox this year, Duffy went five and two thirds innings, giving up seven hits and three runs. Versus lefties, the White Sox are stellar, hitting .303 as a team. Shortstop, Tim Anderson hits .471 against lefties so expect him and the Sox offense to have a big game.
